I have two answers for this questions. Warning: SPOILER ALERT if you watch friends!
1. Growing up, I LOVED scooby do. What is cooler than a talking dog?
2. Recently, I have been watching FRIENDS. I like the episode - DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN IT CAUSE THIS IS A SPOILER - Joey is upset about Rachel. So Phoebe gets him the "happiest dog in the world" and within four hours, the dog is depressed due to Joey. (The episode IS much funnier than my description.)
Okay, well I'm probably dating myself but the movie that came to my mind was Benji. I like all the Benji movies but especially the first one which came out when I was very young. I rented that movie from the library a couple years ago and I still loved it...it's such a classic.
My all time favourite is Lady and the Tramp :) My husband knows whenever I'm feeling a little down or under the weather put on Lady and the Tramp and things are always a little brighter :)
I personally enjoyed "Gentle Ben" as a child. But I absolutely love "Marley & me" I read the book and than saw the movie, also ended up purchasing the DVD.
The song Mr. Bojangles brings me to tears every time I hear it with the line about how they traveled about them traveling about and how the dog up and died.
For television I do like the Animal Cops programs. The recent movie Hotel for Dogs is pretty cute.
Another song that has a lot of emotional meaning for me is "Feed Jake" by Pirates of the Mississippi. The song came out about the time my brother was diagnosed with cancer. His Boxer also came ill about the same time. My brother didn't realize how bad his cancer was; we knew his time was short. He used to sing this song to his dog all the time. After my brother died it became much more difficult to get Sam, his Boxer, to take his medication and died a couple months after.
It would have to be Far from home, the story of yellow dog. It had a great coming of age storyline was beautifully shot I think in Canada, and the acting wasn't all cheesy. Give it a look.
