PREGNANCY: Diet, play and pack adjustments...
Oops... We have a possible litter on the way.
We chaperoned, diapered, and segregated as we have done for two years. Despite all our diligence, I slipped up during a routine bathroom / play break. Not knowing that Kami (the wolf) was allready out, I let Sky (Husky) out to pee. about 5 minutes later I heard "a ruckus".
Long story short, we think we are expecting.
Her first pregnancy 2.5 years ago was unknown to us until she got injured, and we took her to the vet. He informed us she due in a few weeks. unfortunately the very injury that exposed her pregnancy also led to an unfortunate forced miscarriage, due to a need for an emergency injection.
This go-a-round we know, or at least suspect, early on. We feed a low quality food for our pack (old Roy). What should we do to encourage good bone development as well as preventing a loss of calcium in Kami's body due to her pups. Should we change her food? if so, to what? should we simply fortify her old roy with vitamins? if so, what kind? are human pre-natal vitamins good for her?
We plan to completly cut her off from the rest of the pack during outdoor play time. She will still be allowed to be with the pack indoors. Our pack lives exclusively indoors, only stepping out for play and potty. She is kennel trained, as is her mate, and one sister and they can be sequestered for extended periods with no problem.
General Thoughts, comments, and any help or experience would be great!
