Tori replied to Chris's discussion 'Barking Poms' in the group 4 girl Poms club
Mine is like Mocha.. He barks and barks and he barks if someone goes up and down the stairs as well. He barks at all dogs and acts like he wants to attack. We even had dog training but that didn't help. The conclusion was this: "It was in his nature…

What type of animal? (A dog, cat, ferret, bird, etc.) What breed?
Dog: Pompom
My PET's description:
I have a Pompom named snowball. He is so furious and doesn't like anyone to touch him or me. He is the meaniest little animal I've ever had. His small size suprised me because he has a very big attitude I wasn't prepared for. He is wonderful and full of life.
My PET's favorite toy(s) is (are):
small balls
My PET's favorite activity (or activities) is (are):
He loves going to the dog park to run, play, bark, and pester everyone.
What I want others to know about my PET and/ or the owner:
He is my little bundle of joy. he is the best little animal. Whenever I couldn't get up at night out of my sleep he would always help me by rolling his little body on my face and licking my face to wake me. How does he knows to wake me? I have no idea but he knows. He is such a wonderful little pet. You can't do anything but love him for his spirit. He is truly a godsend.

This is long but I hope it helps. Trial by error. Also keep in mind we added our Eng Pointer who was 6 wks when Mocha was just 12wks.

That is typical for Poms though. Ginger was not spayed yet, very spoiled when we got Mocha. Ginger had just turned 1 yr a couple months before we brought Mocha home. Ginger was always bossy. She actually picked me. I went to the breeder with a different pup in mind. Sue (the breeder) had 2 or three liters basically the same age. I sat on her kitchen floor and played with the pups. W/in 10 min Ging came over and sat on my legs. From that point forward she growled, nipped and chased all her siblings and other pups off my lap. I should have know she would be a bossy thing.

When we first got Mocha Ging wasn't happy. She would sniff, growl, nip and run away from Mocha. W/in a 3-5 wk period we kept them separate when we weren't home, but when home we made sure they were around each other. Finally at one point Ging started nudging Mocha and run away trying to get Mocha to play. It eventually worked. We still occassionally had to quick separate them cause Ging would attack. We learned that was typical with 2 females esp if 1 or both wasn't spayed. I had scratches and the occassional bite when sticking my hands in to separate. It sounded worse then it was. Mocha played it up but there was never any injury.

Then we got Pepper last Oct. We were hoping she would be a younger playmate for Mocha because 8/24 was when Ging got sick and wasn't as playful. As Ging got stronger and was getting around better she and Pepper became good friends. They all stared to play well together. We had less Ging psycho moments after having her spayed.

Pepper is 10 1/2 mo now and I really thougth we would have a longer time for them to get along, but after having Raisin 24 hours they started racing, playing and eating together. ALL 4.

I used to keep the 3 girls in a pen w/beds and potty pad when gone and @ night, but it was harder to potty train pepper and my hubby was driving me crazy. He was the first home everyday and would have excited dogs jumping for attention.........yes all over the pad and anything on it. So I went to small wire crates 18", just large enough for them to lay and stand and turn.

It not only helped with the hubby and potty mess, but also their getting along. They can all see each other but are separate enough for alone time.

I would say to give it time. Keep them together, but allow for separate time close enough to get used to each other. Keep separated when you're not home, again keeping them where they can see and smell. Walk them at the same time both next to each other. Let them have their own food bowls. Feed them next to each other. I changed to feeding them in their individual kennels.

I think the key is patience on your part and Snowballs; separate but togther. Puppies never know when enough is enough so that is why I like this approach. Socialize them with other dogs and people often. We hit the puppy stores once a wk or 2. I also did quite a bit of classes with the 1st two.

Always happy to share my trials. Let me know if you need more help and how it's going.

That makes 4 Poms for us and they all have different personalities, but they are getting along quite well surprisingly since Ginger has a strong personality. Mocha and Pepper are developing their mouthiness too. Raisin (our new one 10wks) I am sure will eventually be there too. Poor Whiskey (our English pointer) is out numbered and the girls always steel his bones........bummer for him. Congrats on the new addition.
